2012 WORLD PLUMBING COUNCIL EDUCATION AND TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO AN AUSTRALIAN
The Chairman of the World Plumbing Council (WPC) Mr. GP Russ Chaney announced today that Mr. Peter Miles, Head Teacher of Plumbing, North Sydney College, TAFE NSW, Australia was awarded the 2012 WPC Education and Training Scholarship, valued at up to US$10,000.00.
Mr. Chaney heartily congratulated the successful applicant who has a strong family background in plumbing, growing up in a plumbing family consisting of his father, uncle, brother and son-in-law. His father’s business operated in NSW, Australia for over 60 years. Peter completed his apprenticeship, worked in the family business, and developed a real interest in training others. He took up full time training at TAFE in 1989.
In congratulating Peter, Mr. Chaney made mention that he had already been involved with plumbers from around the world such as Zimbabwe, Swaziland, South Africa, Iran, Persia, Fiji, India, Korea, Scotland, England and Ireland in his current role. This exposure had given him a better understanding of the background and environment in which these plumbers had been working and the type of work that they do.
Mr. Chaney went onto say that Peter had been chosen from a very strong field of applicants from many parts of the world including Brazil, Canada, France, Ghana, India, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the USA. Â He also noted the quality of the applications and congratulated all the applicants on their excellent work and commitment to plumbing.
Peter’s personal goal is to educate plumbers not just train them so that they can be the best that they can be. This pursuit will now take him to England and Ireland to study their training regimes and to look at streamlining recognition of the respective units of competency between each country as a part of the WPC Scholarship.
