Topical issue for first Worshipful Company Lecture of new century

Water Regulations "present a real opportunity for a new and strengthened relationship between the water supply industry, professional plumbers and the public"

The Worshipful Company of Plumbers' first annual lecture of the new century is to address the vital subject of water preservation and protection. Jointly presented by Andy Watts MBE, Chief Executive & Secretary of the Institute of Plumbing and Robert Baty, Chief Executive of South West Water, the lecture on February 2, 2000 will focus on the implications of the new Water Regulations for the 21st Century.

Andy Watts will affirm the importance of the Register of Plumbers, first introduced in 1886, and its current and future role in ensuring effective implementation of the Water Regulations, in collaboration wit the water and gas utilities. The implications for funding of further education as an integral part of the drive to stamp out 'cowboy builders' are assessed.

The new Water Regulations, he will propose, present a real opportunity for a new and strengthened relationship between the water supply industry, professional plumbers and the public to achieve and maintain the highest possible quality standards. It is an opportunity which must not be wasted.

Robert Baty will consider the call for approved contractors to have a detailed knowledge of the Regulations and the consequent new demands for training and recognised qualifications. He will then review the requirement for the status of professional plumbers in the community to be elevated as a reflection of their key role in both Regulations compliance and system maintenance.

The Worshipful Company of Plumbers annual lecture is at the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Savoy Place, London on February 2, 2000, commencing at 5.00pm. Members of the Executive Board of the World Plumbing Council will be present. The lecture is sponsored by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management, The Institute of Plumbing, The Institution of Water Officers and Water UK.

Tickets are priced at £25 to include the lecture and dinner, or £7 for the lecture only. For full details and to reserve tickets contact: The Worshipful Company of Plumbers, 49 Queen Victoria Street, London EC4N 4SA. Tel: 0171 236 7816.
