WORLD PLUMBING COUNCIL TAPS CHANEY AS NEW CHAIRMAN
Edinburgh, Scotland (Sept. 20, 2011) — GP Russ Chaney, CEO of The IAPMO Group, was elected chairman of the World Plumbing Council (WPC) for a term covering 2011-13 during the 9th World Plumbing Conference, Sept. 7-11, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

JUST PUBLISHED BY WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION - WATER SAFETY IN BUILDINGS
This book provides guidance for managing water supplies in buildings where people may drink water, use water for food preparation, wash, shower, swim or use water for other recreational activities or be exposed to aerosols produced by water-using devices, such as cooling towers. These uses occur in a variety of buildings, such as hospitals, schools, child and aged care, medical and dental facilities, hotels, apartment blocks, sport centres, commercial buildings and transport terminals.
WPC LAUNCHES EDUCATION AND TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP FOR 2011
The World Plumbing Council is pleased to invite applications for its 2011 Education and Training Scholarship. The Scholarship (which has been renamed after a review) is available to anyone involved in plumbing industry education and training. The award for 2011, which is worth a maximum of US$10,000, will enable the successful applicant to travel to another country to investigate aspects of industry education and training.
WORLD PLUMBING DAY RECOGNISED BY ANGLICAN BISHOP
In a sermon at a special church service on 12 April 2011 to mark the 400th anniversary of the granting of a Royal Charter to the London Livery company, the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, the Rt. Rev and Rt. Hon. Richard Chartres, Bishop London, commented on the fact that the plumbing industry had taken the positive step of creating World Plumbing Day.
WORLD PLUMBING DAY POSTER COMPETITION WINNERS
The prizewinners in the international poster competition have been announced.
As part of its plans for World Plumbing Day 2011, the World Plumbing Council (WPC) invited industry representatives to go into their local schools to deliver a Powerpoint presentation to children under the age of 10 on the links between water, health and plumbing. As part of this presentation the children were invited to design a poster for World Plumbing Day. Local prizes were presented for the best posters which were then entered into an international competition with prizes being awarded by the WPC.
60 posters were entered from India, USA, Canada, England and Scotland. The initial judging was conducted by WPC Chairman, Robert Burgon, with the final selection being undertaken by a group of 40 individuals who were asked to rank the top posters. The names and locations of the artists were not shown to those being asked to judge the posters.
INTERNATIONAL SPEAKERS LINED UP FOR EDINBURGH CONFERENCE
The organisers of the 9th World Plumbing Conference which will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland from 7-11 September 2011 have announced the first confirmed speakers for the event.

The 2011 National Plumbing Regulators Forum (NPRF) conference is to be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre with the theme 'Healthy industry, healthy people, healthy environment'.
TAKING THE PLUMBING MESSAGE INTO SCHOOLS

PLATFORM ON EUROPEAN PLUMBING
Benny Wielandt, the Danish winner of the 2008 World Plumbing Council Scholarship, has provided details of a new website which contains information on the way in which the plumbing industry is organised in Europe. Pipeline Europe is described as “a platform of links to information in English on the history of plumbing and on the plumbing sector in Europe and around the world.”
