Due to pressure of business at the Secretariat it has not been possible to produce the usual Newsbrief following the 5th World Plumbing Conference in South Africa. However, we reproduce a recent circular and the minutes of the Triennial Council Meeting both of which have been sent to Member Organisations. Please note the Annexes in the Minutes are not reproduced.
October 1999
TO ALL FULL AND AFFILIATE MEMBER ORGANISATIONS AND FORMER WPC OFFICERS
Please find enclosed minutes of the Council meeting held at Sun City, Northern Province, South Africa on 15, 16 and 17 September 1999.
With regard to minute reference WPC 6/99 - Financial Report, WPC Treasurer George Verry reports that the financial audit for 1998/99 is underway with international Accountants Ernst and Young and copies will be circulated in due course.
All those who were present at WPC99 in South Africa were fortunate to attend one of the best Conferences yet! Congratulations to WPC Honorary President Ian Fraser; Conference Co-ordinator Suzette Bothma and her team and the host Member Organisation the Institute of Plumbing (South Africa) for all the hard work and a wonderful "African Experience".
Further to the request for nominations for Vice Chairman made in Sun City, we have received written nomination for Michael Von Bock und Polach, Secretary General of ZVSHK in Germany. Unless additional written nominations are received at the Secretariat by Wednesday 1st December, Michael Von Boch will be declared elected Vice Chairman and a member of the WPC Executive Board 1999 - 2002. If further nominations are received a ballot will be carried out in accordance with WPC Article IV (k).
In Sun City, the Council held a detailed discussion about the future of WPC - see minute WPC 11/99. It was agreed to appoint a Long Range Planning Committee to consider options by the 4th Triennial Meeting in Berlin in 2002. The Executive Board welcomes volunteers from Full Member Organisations to join the Committee and those interested should write to the Secretariat in the first instance.
It is currently planned to hold the 2000 Annual Meeting of the Council in Rotorua, New Zealand. This will coincide with the 21st Biennial Conference of the Australia New Zealand Reciprocity Associate (ANZRA) which deals with mutual recognition of plumbing qualifications, licensing and registration in those countries. The precise timing of the Annual Meeting has yet to be decided but the ANZRA Conference is being held between 29th October and 3rd November 2000. Further information will be issued when available.
Please look out for the revamped website at www.worldplumbing.org on or around 1st November. Part-time "Webmaster" (and full-time Plumbing Installation Manager!), James Robshaw AIP, RP has used his internet expertise to produce a highly attractive site of which the world plumbing community can be proud. Please email us with comment and feedback on the new website and how you feel it can be made even more effective!
