To promote the importance of plumbing in protecting public health.
OBJECTIVE 1
Develop and promote the image and professional standards of plumbing to the world.
PURPOSE
There is a general lack of understanding of the importance of plumbing in protecting public health.
INITIATIVES
- A rolling programme of WPC press releases issued to members & others for publication. Development of website case studies / videos promoting the professionalism of the plumbing industry.
- Market and promote WPC in different countries.
- Develop WPC promotional material.
- Continue to publish the WPC Review and encourage members to reproduce it within their own publications.
- Identify opportunities for promoting WPC meetings, and prepare and issue media announcement thereafter.
- Develop the use of other languages for the WPC website and publications.
- Identify opportunities for promoting objectives at meetings of member and other relevant organizations.
- Communicate a consistent message about the WPC’s vision, mission, objectives and activities.
- Invite all WPC member organizations to submit relevant articles, press releases and information for placement on the WPC website and in the WPC Review.
- Give support and promote career progression to trainees / apprentices.
- Supporting skills and demonstration projects
- Support minimum qualification requirements and mandatory licensing for professionals in this space.
- Promote the importance of codes, standards, and conformity assessment schemes for the industry.
OBJECTIVE 2
To encourage, participate in and facilitate the exchange of information, research and technology applicable to the world plumbing industry.
PURPOSE
To promote understanding of advances in technology and practices to improve plumbing, emerging challenges and to share best practice worldwide.
INITIATIVES
- WPC membership to be engaged in seeking speakers and presenters for WPC meetings
- Interact with local plumbing industry organisations at WPC Meetings.
- Host or facilitate electronically or in person periodic technical symposiums and disseminate the outcomes of these events.
- Identify and develop links with research and development organizations involved with water, energy sources, sanitation and environmental systems.
- Constantly ensure methods of delivery (at General Meetings or other events) are accessible for maximum engagement.
OBJECTIVE 3
Promote plumbing education and training worldwide.
PURPOSE
Promote the importance of education and training for the betterment of plumbing, sanitation, public health, and the environment.
INITIATIVES
- Provide a WPC Scholarship Programme and grants. Utilise networks of plumbing training organizations to promote WPC and its education and training objectives.
- Continue to develop the relationship with WorldSkills.
- Provide an opportunity to present examples of education and training best practice at WPC meetings.
- Promote plumbing and its pathways as career opportunities, offer support for those whose access to this may be limited.
- Promote the use of WPC/WHO training packages/modules.
- Encourage uniformity in plumbing education and training, monitoring and maintaining competency of training provisions. Consider the International Labour Organisation (ILO) ILC.111/5A on quality apprenticeships.
OBJECTIVE 4
Promote the plumbing industry’s role in improving public health through the access and protection of safe water and sanitation.
PURPOSE
Create a better quality of life for the World’s population by contributing to the reduction of death and illness caused by water-related problems.
INITIATIVES
- Identify appropriate audiences to which the health messaging should be communicated
- Maintain and enhance WPC’s NGO status and relationship with the WHO.
- Create working relationships with other organisations with a shared commitment to global public health.
- Promote the distribution of WPC’s materials and website concerning public health, such as Health Aspects of Plumbing.
- Pursue the translation of WPC’s materials and website.
OBJECTIVE 5
Promote the Plumbing Industry’s important role in mitigating the effects of climate change and safeguarding the environment through proper management, care, efficient use and reuse, and conservation of natural resources.
PURPOSE
To contribute to a green, sustainable future and to engage with key stakeholders on matters related to plumbing and the environment.
INITIATIVES
- Create, maintain, and strengthen working relationships with like-minded organisations and decision-makers who have a commitment to safeguarding the environment against the negative effects of climate change.
- Enhance WPC’s climate-related communications by promoting the plumbing industry’s important role in tackling climate change. This may include sending a regular newsletter to stakeholders and distributing Media Releases, where appropriate, to interested journalists.
- Use WPC and stakeholder meetings as an opportunity to raise awareness of water conservation and environmental issues as well as the significant impact that plumbing can have on the environment.
- Pitch WPC spokespeople to appear at conferences and events related to climate change to give WPC a platform to share the important role of plumbing in protecting the environment.
OBJECTIVE 6
To meet at a World Plumbing Conference at least every three (3) years.
PURPOSE
To further the Vision, Mission and Objectives of the World Plumbing Council.
INITIATIVES
- Review the Guidelines for hosting World Plumbing Conferences, including arrangements for co-ordination with the EB.
- Organise World Plumbing Conferences.
- Holding the General Meeting of the World Plumbing Council together with the Triennial World Plumbing Conference.
- Election of the Executive Board and the selection of future Triennial World Plumbing Conference hosts.
- Facilitate networking among delegates and guests.
- Showcase emerging talent and technologies.
OBJECTIVE 7
To increase membership and ensure participation in the World Plumbing Council.
PURPOSE
It is believed that greater global awareness of the importance of the Plumbing Industry will be achieved through active involvement in the WPC.
INITIATIVES
- Increase participation at WPC meetings, particularly by countries not currently represented
- Facilitate the interaction between WPC Members and non-members.
- Undertake a membership recruitment campaign to increase worldwide representation in WPC.
- Encourage WPC member organizations to host WPC Meetings.
- Seek sponsorship and support for WPC events and activities.
- Seek support aimed at (focused on) economically disadvantaged plumbing organizations and individuals wishing to participate as a member of WPC.
- Provide complimentary Individual membership for plumbing students or apprentices
- Continually review membership structure and subscriptions.
- Develop and maintain a global database of plumbing industry organizations.
OBJECTIVE 8
Enhance the status and influence of the World Plumbing Council.
PURPOSE
Expand the awareness and relevance of the World Plumbing Council.
INITIATIVES
- Strengthen relationships with existing partners.
- Identify and create relationships with potential partners.
- Facilitate communication with policy and decision makers.
- Support, promote, and maintain recognition of World Plumbing Day by relevant authorities including respective governments and the United Nations.
OBJECTIVE 9
Ensure adequate resources to achieve the objectives of the World Plumbing Council.
PURPOSE
Ensure that the World Plumbing Council remains sustainable and relevant.
INITIATIVES
- Identify additional sources of funding to support the work of the WPC.
- Maximize sponsorship and royalty opportunities for WPC and its members.
- Establish and implement a 5-year business plan for the World Plumbing Council.
OBJECTIVE 10
Maintain and grow recognition and support for World Plumbing Day.
PURPOSE
Ensure World Plumbing Day is promoted throughout the world.
INITIATIVES
- Promote the availability of WPC resources for World Plumbing Day.
- Share promotional activities and initiatives with members.
- Report event and activity successes to the Executive Board.
