Celebrating World Plumbing Day & World Water Day: WMPSC’s Commitment to Sustainability and Skill Development

Water is the essence of life, and plumbing serves as its vital conduit, ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for communities worldwide. As we move toward a future that prioritizes sustainability, the role of skilled plumbing professionals becomes more critical than ever. This year, the Water Management & Plumbing Skill Council (WMPSC) marked World Plumbing Day and World Water Day with a series of impactful initiatives, reaffirming our commitment to skill development, empowerment, and water conservation.

World Plumbing Day: Recognizing the Unsung Heroes

On March 11, WMPSC celebrated World Plumbing Day with a nationwide effort to honor and uplift plumbing professionals. This day was dedicated to recognizing their indispensable contributions in shaping a healthier and more sustainable world.

In Pithoragarh, Uttrakhand, the day was marked by a certificate distribution ceremony at the Government Industrial Training Institute. Trained Nal Jal Mitras, who play a crucial role in ensuring rural water access under the Jal Jeevan Mission, were recognized for their dedication and skills. This initiative reinforced the importance of skilled manpower in India’s water infrastructure.

In Howrah, West Bengal, WMPSC, under the Prince Pipes initiative, celebrated the achievements of 11 women plumbing trainees with a formal certification ceremony. This event not only acknowledged their accomplishments but also highlighted the increasing participation of women in the plumbing sector. To further raise awareness, a poster-making competition was organized, encouraging creative expression on the significance of plumbing in everyday life.

In Begusarai, Bihar, in collaboration with Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Bihar Skill Development Mission (BSDM), another certificate distribution ceremony was held under the SANKALP RPL Bridge Course. This initiative reinforced WMPSC’s unwavering commitment to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and skill enhancement, ensuring that experienced plumbers receive the acknowledgment and certification they deserve.

World Water Day: Advocating for Conservation and Empowerment

March 22 marked World Water Day, a global call to action for water conservation and sustainable management. WMPSC leveraged this occasion to drive meaningful change, aligning with its flagship initiative, Main Bhi Jal Rakshak, which educates and empowers individuals to become water conservation ambassadors.

A significant highlight of our World Water Day celebration was the launch of the “Micro-Credential Course — Introduction to Jal Sanrakshan” and the “Main Bhi Jal Rakshak” initiative with Galgotias University. With the esteemed presence of university officials, including the pro-vice chancellor, this event reinforced the importance of water conservation education and skill development among students and young professional

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Certificate Distribution Ceremony under the SANKALP Project was successfully conducted in Jamui, Bihar, recognizing the achievements of three completed batches of skilled beneficiaries. Through initiatives like these, the SANKALP Project continues to empower individuals with essential technical skills, ensuring a skilled workforce that contributes to India’s water conservation and management goals. With more batches in the pipeline, the program remains committed to expanding its impact and creating employment opportunities in the sector.

The celebration of World Water Day also emphasized the broader mission of equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for a water-secure future. WMPSC continues to work toward capacity building, skill enhancement, and public awareness, ensuring that water conservation is not just a responsibility but a movement embraced by all.

Looking Ahead: A Future Built on Skill and Sustainability

WMPSC remains steadfast in its mission to train, certify, and empower individuals in the water management and plumbing sector. The celebration of World Plumbing Day and World Water Day serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of skilled professionals in shaping a sustainable world. Through continued industry collaborations, government partnerships, and community-driven initiatives, WMPSC envisions a future where every individual has access to safe water and where the plumbing profession continues to thrive as a cornerstone of modern infrastructure.

As we move forward, let us reaffirm our dedication to building a world where safe water and sanitation are not privileges but universal rights. Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and create a future that is both skilled and sustainable.

IAPMO ‘Goes Blue’ to Celebrate World Plumbing Day 2025

At IAPMO’s California headquarters, employees wore blue and walked the “blue carpet,” showcasing their commitment to the industry, while the building was illuminated in blue — a striking azure beacon along the busy I-15 corridor. Meanwhile, IAPMO Oceania celebrated with a barbecue at its Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre facility, bringing together professionals from the Master Plumbers, the Mechanical Services Association of Australia, and plumbing apprentices, who all enjoyed a great meal and the chance to connect — making the celebration a truly global event.

Friends from across the plumbing industry donned blue on their social media profiles, including the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC), American Water Works Association, and the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE).

World Plumbing Day even got a shout out from Ryan Seacrest on his March 11 syndicated morning radio show!

IAPMO also sponsored three plumber ambassadors through PHCP Pros to share with their Instagram audiences what it means to them that World Plumbing Day exists.

The highly visible tribute underscored plumbing’s essential role in public health, safety, and sustainability. Also highly visible: New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy officially declared March as March4Water Month and California has introduced legislation to follow suit.

March4Water unites World Plumbing Day (March 11) and World Water Day (March 22) for a month-long campaign to raise awareness about how effective plumbing codes and standards drive long-term sustainability, economic feasibility, and public health protection.

Social Media Presence

There were more than 400 posts on LinkedIn with the hashtag #WorldPlumbingDay. More than half also incorporated this year’s theme, #PlumbingIsMore.
